The laying hens
The place later became known by the name of laying hens, because the beaches leaving the Magdalena river during the dry season there were the iguanas, turtles, hicoteas, etc. A spawn with this name went down in history as viceparish and later became judges of Sabanalarga until 1965 he was elevated to the status of municipality. From Ponedera said the priest Joseph Valentin Rodriguez "was a beautiful, beautiful place, the most appropriate to concentrate and free settlers scattered over 38 sites."
Ponedera as a parish is recognized by the curia as San José de Porto Alegre, because at one time he was baptized with the name, but the moniker prevailed over Ponedera, which is the name by which it is known today. Speaking of the number of families that formed the foundation of Ponedera, found in the census of 1745 the number of 35 families living in 24 houses, which were built by them with palm as ceiling and as pitchforks walls reed, reeds and mud.
