region Ituango of ethnic  CATIA  and Nutabe began to be appeased and Christianized from 1566 ,

Shortly thereafter come to Ituango Don Gaspar de Rodas and Don Andres de Valdivia , who wrote the real and bloody history of this region.

In 1568 , the Spanish authority ordered Don Gaspar de Rodas found a new city where he saw fit to hold and reduce belicosĂ­simas tribes of that area of Antioquia who resisted conquest.

Almost simultaneously, in 1569 , Don Andres de Valdivia is appointed by the king of Spain governor and captain general of the provinces of Antioquia, Ituango, Nive and Brenduco .

His bidding, Don Gaspar de Rodas , located in Santa Fe de Antioquia , issued an invitation to the founding of "Saint John of Rhodes", attended by adventurers of all neighboring colonies and good men.

Don Gaspar de Rodas met about 80 men at arms and 500 Indians. He first visited the Norisco Valley (near today's town of Frontino ) Indians of this region, to get rid of the annoying visitors, told the founder expedition that riches were away at lands Ituango . DonGaspar de Rodas found nothing but work on this route, but managed to hold many tribes and discover large populations in the riverZenĂș (today Sinu ), and because many quarrels with the natives, and though he tried, failed to stabilize the foundation of "Saint John of Rhodes", a town that was going to be called in this way in memory of his own surname. Don Gaspar began building the town to perpetuate his name
