of the Department of Huila at a distance of 113 kilometers from the capital, Neiva and 73 km from the town of pitalito. It is known as the Diocesan Capital of Huila for being the first Catholic diocese in the region which were created today, also known as the Alma del Huila or Garzoncito . It is also known for being a city proud of its religious architecture and the great personality of its people.

It lies at an altitude from 790 m to 900 m (the urban area) and has an average temperature of 24 ° C. Its topography is flat, semi-mountainous and forested and therefore are within its territory several climatic zones. The town of Garzon was founded in 1783, its name is due to the presence of a heron of this species at the time of its founding.
