The Dovio is one of the three municipalities with longer foundation, yet it is one of the two newest created as a municipality.
Previously he was also known with the name: Rojas Pinilla and leaves. The first name in honor of a president and the second due to the large amount of leaves falling from the trees in the main park. Its current name El Dovio, means place surrounded by mountains
