can not rule out the hypothesis that is a diminutive of Cúcuta and could at once assume that it was a tribute to the man he called those regions relative to founder although it has been proven by any means, tradition has taught that Camilo Torres Delgado was held in 1780 .

It was erected municipality in 1812 elevated to the status of parish in 1814. According to oral tradition, the liberator Simón Bolívar repeatedly passed through the village and spent the night in one of them, a fact that is remembered with a commemorative plaque.
