Clodomiro Ramirez Turbo separate a strip of land from the river Juradó to be added to Pavarandocito river. It was at this date, separation and ordinance, when it was officially created Chigorodó Township.

"Chigorodó" means, "River Guaduas" indigenous language. This town, around 1878, was also called Nombre de Dios. It has also been called "The Cruise". Let it be known, in the 1880s and until 1910, some operators settle in Chigorodó tagua. In 1915, the Ordinance of 27 April 52 housed in a municipality in the township of Chigorodó. This year, with the decline of the exploitation of tagua, its inhabitants migrate to other areas and begin to cultivate rice and cocoa in the area, and also in this period that begins on-site logging.

Today Chigorodó that hot but still cool rivers with large municipality in which it is still possible to swim or boat tours. Beside the Abibe Mountains, large water reserve of Urabá subregion rises. Its economy depends on the banana, one of the main export products of Colombia, and livestock, which attracts many visitors to its traditional auctions, the busiest of the entire region.
