Squid was founded in the Republican period,
under the government of General Tomás Cipriano de Mosquera . The first settlers
arrived in 1840, settled on the site today is Squid (initially called Gamarra),
in an extensive plain between the slew of Negros and the Rio Grande de la
Magdalena
