Means " Place of Pumpkins ", the story of this resort starts in 1590 when the Royal Army Captain Don Francisco Hern�ndez de Herrera and Lopez , who was conqueror of Chile, Sergeant Major of the Kingdom, Warrior and Lord Encomendero of Arauco Indians is rewarded for his meritorious services in the War of Arauco , by the Spanish Crown , a land grant ranch called Catapilco , which had previously belonged to the chief of Catapilco Gaspar. The conquistador Hern�ndez de Herrera took solemn possession in the name of His Majesty the estate on June 3, 1599, thus becoming the first Spanish owner of such land. The port of shipment of products produced on the farm of the current Catapilco was Zapallar bay or harbor. The estate was inherited by his children after the Captains Francisco and Diego Hern�ndez de Herrera and Arancibia , warriors of Arauco and Gentlemen Encomenderos of Indians.
