Agriculture and industry

It is the main economic activity led by the cultivation of vines and export of table grapes , also citrus and avocado ( avocado ), and to a much lesser extent cereals , fodder and vegetables . There is a decreasing in the commune transhumant livestock mainly goats .

In the industrial sector highlights the production and bottling plant of the Elqui Pisquera Agricultural Cooperative Limited ( CAPEL ), the main producer of Chilean Pisco . In the city there is a large part of the total production of pisco in the country where the product stands liquor from 30 to 45 degrees of Alcohol .

Mining

While in the town of Vicu�a there are significant reserves of gold and silver , but no major holdings, the most important mine CopperSan Geronimo established in 2009 ranked as medium mining, located in the town of Talcuna (350 Workers 7,000 tons of copper and U.S. $ 20 million across all its operations.

As large mining gold , El Indio mine existed catalgoada as "Big Mining", which was in operation until 2004 with Co. property. Barrick Minera de Chile Limitada, which was closed and dismantled by economic and environmental reasons. The mine was located in the high mountains of the commune.

Vicu�a's streets have old buildings that keep the design of early 1900 . The main attractions within the city are its main square with ancient trees in exhibiting sculptures and motifs that pay tribute to the poet Nobel laureate Gabriela Mistral made by Stone Art School of Universidad de La Serena , the Temple of the Immaculate Conception Bauer Tower, which houses the tourist information center and the old town council. A few kilometers from the city you can find the path of Pisco Pisco factories visiting North Road ,Capel , Mistral , and the Three Rs Cochiguaz Artisans.
