It dates back to the German colonization in 1852 driven by Bernardo Philippi and Vicente Perez Rosales . With the passage of time becomes one of the most important ports of Lake Llanquihue .

The 22 of December of 1891 is created as a municipality under the presidency of Don Jorge Montt .

The community was originally called Puerto Mu�oz Gamero, in memory of the sailor who explored the Llanquihue, Benjam�n Mu�oz Gamero . One of the first buildings was the warehouse of a settler named Cristino Ochs, for always well stocked, the locals used to say "where there Ochs", a term which derives the current name of the town
