At the time of Don Pedro de Valdivia , for the years 1540 , a place called Panquehue was just a swamp lagoon and the river of Aconcagua Valley , where he grew pangue , large leafed plant that develops in the muddy, and that to this day is in the area of San Roque. From there comes the name of the commune, which comes from the native language Mapuche and that means instead of pangues.
