Basketry is an art learned and shared from generation to generation, is one of the most obvious traditions Yaracuy.



Basketry, like other expressions of Venezuelan folk art represents a dignified survival strategy for many people that do persist with determination and unshakable.



In Guama, this traditional family values-laden, is presented as the main form of survival of a social group comprised approximately 32 families, located specifically in the sector of Sabaneta and San Antonio Sucre Municipality.



The raw material comes from basketry environment, therefore, require a deep knowledge of the palms, vines, roots, buds, corozos, bark and vines used for fiber production.



Besides patience and concentration, basketry also requires manual dexterity to twist, weaving, winding, weaving, sewing, gluing and tying.



Basketry is usually performed by groups of six to eight people, consisting of men, women and children, the latter, start working at an early age, between seven and eight years. The task of preparing the baskets made in the backyards, where they adopt a circular shape to run the activity that lasts six to eight hours.



Within this there is a working group leader, whose responsibility falls on the head generally familiar (older person) who will be in charge of delegating tasks to be undertaken to prepare the baskets
