A variety of weekend festivals occur throughout the year. The annual
Northern Arizona Book Festival, held in the spring, brings together nationally
known authors to read and display their works. The Flagstaff Mountain Film
Festival is held every October, and features a variety of independent films and
documentaries focusing on extreme sports, environmental issues, and global
topics. The festival is four days long and consists of several sessions of
films. The screenings are held at the Orpheum Theater in the historic downtown
