Wells is a cathedral city and civil parish in the Mendip district of Somerset, England, on the southern edge of the Mendip Hills. Although the population recorded in the 2001 census was only 10,536, it has had city status since 1205, because of the presence of Wells Cathedral. The 2011 census recorded a population of 11,343 (5,259 males & 6,084 females).
