In 1851 patriot Ivan Hribar (politician, banker, publicist and diplomat) was born in Trzin.

Many boys from Trzin fought bravely in World War I and the north border under General Maister. On the front of this war 11 men of Trzin fell, 4 were missing. During World War I there was an airport with a base for 32 airplanes. During World War II, 24 villagers slain, 3 died hostage, 1 was burnt alive, 5 died in internment and 79 were evicted from their home town.

Trzin played an important role in the Slovenian Independence War in 1991, since army of the Territorial Defence of the Republic of Slovenia and the Yugoslav National Army fought on the PÅ¡ata River bridge on 27 June 1991. This battle is considered one of the major battles in which four soldiers of Yugoslav National Army were killed and one member of the Territorial Defence of the Republic of Slovenia
