Formerly the largest city of Vojvodina region, contemporary Subotica is now the second largest city in the province, following Novi Sad. It is also the fifth largest city in Serbia (discounting Kosovo) after Belgrade, Novi Sad, Niš, and Kragujevac. It is a multi ethnic city, with Hungarians (34.99%), Serbs (27.85%), Bunjevci(10.87%) and Croats (10.43%) as largest ethnic groups. The city's population numbers 96,483 inhabitants. Linguistically the city has a South Slavic-speaking majority as Serbs, Croats, Bunjevci and Yugoslavs
