bsp;Ottoman Empire (predecessor to the Republic of Turkey) sent ships laden with food to Drogheda during the Irish famine. However, there are no records of this with the Drogheda Port, and the star and crescent predate the famine. However, a recent letter was found which was written by the Irish merchandises explicitly thanked the Ottoman Sultan for their help. The letter was found at the Turkish archive. The researcher states that Ireland has not such a letter due to the fire that occurred in the 20th century and destroyed all the documents in the library.

20th century

In 1921 the preserved severed head of Saint Oliver Plunkett, who was executed in London in 1681, was put on display in St. Peter's Church, where it remains today. The church is located on West Street, which is the main street in the town
