into warfare between 1919 to 1921 during the Silesian Uprisings. Following a successful third revolt and brokered peace treaty, Tychy joined the Second Polish Republic in 1921.

After World War II, the city was designated by the Polish government as a non-self-sustaining city supplying adjacent Katowice. During this period, many blocks of flats and housing estates were built throughout the 1950s and 1970s.

Today, Tychy is a city is famous for its huge economic zone, its Fiat and Opel factories in the city's eastern districts, and its worldwide famous Tyskie beer
