The Latin American Energy Capital Electric has two hydroelectric plants, Acaray that was launched in 1968 and Itaipu , built between 1976 and 1982 , is the largest dam in the world, considered one of the wonders of the modern world, this makes the electricity is one of the economic pillars of the city.

It is an agricultural area with exploitation of soybean , palm , mint , corn , coffee , cotton , rice , beans , wheat and spurge . Also engaged in livestock.

The sector industry has two industrial parks, where they settle in the production of textiles, plastics, fertilizers and agro-industry.
