Islamabad features an atypical version of a humid subtropical climate, with warm and dry springs, hot and humid summers accompanied by a monsoon season, and brief but cool winters. Islamabad's micro-climate is regulated by three artificial reservoirs; Rawal, Simli, and Khanpur Dam. Khanpur Dam is located on the Haro River near the town of Khanpur, about 40 kilometers (25 mi) from Islamabad.
