About Kampong Cherating

Quiet seaside village, set among coconut palms, a short walk from the beach, Kampong Cherating has become a haven for those who want to sample kampong life or just hang out in a simple chalet-style budget resort. Over the years it has undergone a metamorphosis into something a little more sophisticated and upmarket. In the 1990s the place was a booming resort with a vibrant backpacker scene. However, in more recent times, tourist numbers have dropped considerably and the increasing number of Malaysian visitors has yet to breach the gap.

Kemasik is the best beach close to Cherating but the highlight of the area is Rantau Abang, the nesting site for five different species of turtle
