This island has begun to be populated by Chinese century since. XII. The Portuguese arrived in this island in 1851 and occupied it. Then incorporated it into the colony of Macau , and today continues to be an integral part of the MSAR. Taipa is connected to the Macau peninsula by Governor Nobre de Carvalho Bridge , the Friendship Bridge and Sai Van Bridge . It is also connected to the island of Coloane by "Road Isthmus", built on the isthmus of Cotai .



The Taipa always been a sparsely populated island. But this situation changed in October of 1974 , when the Governor Nobre de Carvalho Bridge was completed. From this date, the island has experienced and continues to experience, a great development and substantial increase in population. Today is a great residential area
