History of Strassen

JuteVilla
Roman road leading from Trier through Arlon Strassen and Mamer up. Remains were found in 1960 during the widening of the Kiem Street. The seal of Johann Strassen (1411) and piety dating from 1500 (currently on display at the National Museum of the State), provided the basis for the municipal coat of arms created in 1976 and whose description is hieratic "Cloche d'or".

Due to a plague, one third of the population of Strassen disappeared. With the cadastral maps of the time of Maria Theresia (1766) we see that the surface of Strassen was 2594.65 acres and the population numbered 417 souls.

Strassen in 1804, with some houses in Reckenthal, became a parish. In 1823 the town of Strassen united with Bertrange, but by the law of August 6, 1849, Strassen was again separated from Bertrange with effect from 1 January 1850. Thus it formed a separate municipality with Reckenthal. At that time, there were 1300 habitants.

At that time, some Luxembourghish began to emigrate to the United States, part of which came from Strassen.
