An important railway station on Lithuanian-Polish border, on
the break-of-gauge between Standard gauge (1435mm) line to Suwałki and Russian
gauge (1520mm) line to Kaunas. The station is also used as a terminus for local
passenger service from Kaunas, intercity service from Vilnius and international
service from Warszawa through Białystok. A freight line to Alytus also branches
off at this station
