Dimapur is the magnet around which the economic and developmental activities of the state are centred. An important commercial centre for the region, it is also a gateway to Nagaland and manipur. The national highway 39 that connects kohima, impala and the myanmar border at moreh runs through dimapur.due to increase of population and rise of number of cars in the city, there is a lot of traffic jams in and around the commercial areas dimapur is also an important military center, with the headquarters of the bro sewak located here. There is also a huge crpf establishment and the rangapahar army cantonment adjoining the municipality. The peace camp headquarters of the nscn-im faction is also located here
