Chandauli is a district in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The district headquarters are situated at Chandauli Town. The district comes under the Varanasi division. Chandauli was named a district under the governance of Mayawati. Since its eastern boundary touches Bihar, it shares the culture and festivals of the place. The city Mughal Sarai has the busiest railway station in the North East zone of the nation. Chandraprabha Sanctuary and waterfalls like Devdari and Rajdari are present here. It produces paddy and wheat on a mass scale. Owing to the extreme fertile lands of the Gangetic plan, it is suitable for growing paddy and hence sometimes referred to as Dhaan ka Katora of Uttar Pradesh. The people of the district took active participation during the freedom struggle. Though the district still lacks in infrastructural and educational facilties, improvements are being made to provide better lifestyle to the people. Khakhara, a very famous village of the district holds historical importance during the time of the freedom struggle. The district forms part of the Red Corridor. The district was segregated from Varanasi and made a separate region in the year 1997 for better administration. It is situated on the eastern and southern side of the Holy Ganga. The district derives its name from its headquarters. The kingdom of Kashi once included the present region. Many legends are related to this place and it has abundance of ancient antiques.

Not much is known about the discovery of the place. There are stories about some deserted sites, tanks and kunds. There is an ancient site in the district named Baluwa at the bank of River Ganga where Ganga flows from east to west direction. A religious fair called the Pachchim Vahini Mela takes place every year and holds importance for Hindus. It is said that the Ganga flows east to west direction only at two places in the country first in Allahabad and second one at Baluwa
