El Valle de San Jose had its origin on the Camino Real where drovers and pilgrims journeyed coming from the territory of Charalá and surrounding towns, on their way to the Villas de Santa Cruz de San Gil and New Baeza, or Our Lady Cossio del Socorro and Otero. By this way walked Viceroys, archbishops, judges, presidents of the Royal Audiencia and royal visitors.

In 1720 the pastor of Socorro on this site was built by the "Valley of Saint Joseph", whose jurisdiction belonged, "A thatched chapel for spiritual pastoral distribute the Whites, Mestizos and Indians for many
