Tutazá Township, is a town that dates from before the conquest. Its name comes from the Cacique Tutazua, Chibcha language that means "son of the sun." The first historical records of the municipality, appear in the envoys of King Ferdinand VII and Queen Elizabeth. In meetings with the Spanish warriors the Tutazúa, is sent along with that in the corresponding Duitama to opposition in colonial times. Tundama cacique forces were defeated by the Spanish armies, juanto to the chief of Tutazá.
