arrived in Santa Fe on March 21, 1783 to take possession of the new parish. In October 1792 the lands were auctioned deleted the receipt by Juan Buenaventura Ortiz, Mayor of Bucaramanga mines, whereby the property of the settlers of the new parish was legalized.

The decree given on September 30, 1887 by Governor Alejandro Peña Solano to put the scheme territorial division in accordance with the Constitution of 1886 made way Suratá its current municipal category, adding to its territory the village of California.
