History of Soplaviento

During the colonial period, until 1810, the Province of Cartagena depended on the Viceroyalty of Santa Fe (source governorate bolivar).

After the Battle of Boyacá, which ended the Spanish rule in the territory of New Granada, Congress enacted the December 17, 1819 and created the Republic of Colombia, composed of the territory forming the Viceroyalty already named and the Captaincy General of Venezuela, which were divided into three main departments called Cundinamarca, Venezuela and Quito. Later Republican armies under General Mantilla, freed from foreign tutelage Cartagena, 1821-1829.
