It is considered that in pre-Columbian times the territory of San Carlos de Guaroa Guayupes and Yaricos inhabited the Indians. During the time of the conquest in 1537, Juan de San Martin crossed the valley of San Martin which included what today is for the current municipalities located on the banks of the Meta river, in search of the American dream, a company that failed for lack gold and the presence of tropical diseases.
