Pivijay is one of the 23 municipalities that has been fractionated Magdalena
Department for administrative purposes, it is located north of the Republic of
Colombia in the north area - western department.
The founders were the Spanish Pivijay Longoria José Flórez, Juan Valera and
Antonio Sanchez, who on May 30, 1774 reached 120 families from the village
Guaimaro Rosary and settled here fleeing the Magdalena river
