Residents of Carthage, La Victoria and Toro founded the population, called El Naranjo. Initially, it was a village of La Victoria district until his erection.

The region occupied by the Municipality of Obando was inhabited temporarily, in distant ages, indigenous communities of diverse backgrounds, including those belonging to the tribe of the Quimbayas and Chocoes, however, the region was busy with other Indian families, who moved to other parts of the territory.
