Hondas was to avoid the attacks of the Indians Tananeos Simoes
and lived by hunting and fishing.
In 1630 the settlers built the first church which was
made of mud and palm roof bitter. In 1774 the
company reached moral Jesuit priests, where they founded the Hacienda de San
Bartolomé, the Honda and Santa Rosa de Arenal, from there its evangelizing
mission were projected to all contours.
In this church the first Simon Bolivar slept on the
night of May 20, 1830.
The vast region now occupied by the Municipality of
Morales was broken Mompox Township in the year 1845.
