History of Iza

JuteVilla
The name comes from the word Iza Chibcha za meaning night. Although in 1895 the name was changed to the population Santa Isabel, according to the dictionary because the word Castilian iza meant concubine, its inhabitants kept the traditional name.  The town is also known as "Green Nest Boyacá" name given by Manuel Ancízar , who toured the region by 1850 being contributor Corográfica Commission (Del lat. chorographĭa, and this of gr. χωρογραφία: description of a country, region or province.) directed by Agustín Codazzi . In
