The history of Ituango begins with
the first Spanish conquistadors arrived on the scene, first César
Francisco in 1537 , and thenJuan de Badillo in 1538 (Columbus
arrived in America in 1492 ). Both left their home in San
Sebastián de Urabá (near today's town of Necoclí ), each
overcame the Sinu River to its source, and both, each in turn, then
entered the region of Ituango .
