Its first settlers were the indigenous Tahamíes Tribe of Indians Quiramas.

In 1787 he brought from Quito image of Nuestra Señora del Carmen and considering the increase of residents called for the erection Parish for El Carmen. In 1807 it was granted the status of parish under the name of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Viboral. With the parish were assigned the first limits, since there was recognized a territory.
