The spot where now stands the town of Chinú was inhabited in pre-Columbian period by Indian Zenú or Urabaes; they had given to the savannas and the surrounding region the indigenous name of 'Mexión' or 'Mohicón' and had attained a high degree of political and social development. Handled excellently jewelry, pottery and crafts and had efficiently organized into three chiefdoms Finzenú namely, Panzenú and Zenufana.
