Caracolí obtained the status of township in 1905 , part of the municipality of San Roque . As time passed and progress was consolidated, grew the yearnings of caracoliseños to separate from San Roque.

On 30 November 1963 , by high demand by the inhabitants to the Governor of Antioquia, was created Caracolí Township.

Currently, due to the many natural beauties of Caracolí, among which are the Caverns of Nus , home to hundreds of species of birds, mammals and plants, some of them in danger of extinction, the national government, in conjunction with individual, perform an economic investment to preserve part of this vast ecological wealth, and in turn, strengthen tourism in the town.
