History of Campo de La Cruz

This town was founded in colonial times. The accepted version is that it was founded by a Spanish family Melgarejo surname on November 9, 1634. Eventually his people gave the name of Puerto Real of the Holy Cross, which then was just as Campo de la Cruz, in early of this century.

During colonial times the town belonged to the Province of Cartagena de Indias, as confirmed by the command relationship Archbishop and Viceroy Don Antonio Caballero y Góngora. In 1772 he worked as the Second Party Captaincy Tierradentro militia composed bodies,
