Near the site of the present town of San Fernando Berbeo existed or Lengupá Agua Blanca, founded by the Spaniards, which survived as head of municipality until 1835. In 1893 the village which would result in the present population was named Berbeo ratifying the ordinance No. 28 of 1913 that says: Article 1 "Restablécese, in the village of Berbeo, the town of San Fernando of the defunct province Neira.
