The name of the village, is the name of its founder, Rudesindo Barranco. The formation of the town center, starting from the Malibu "Loba Old" indigenous population in 1637 was elevated to the status of parish in 1814, and in 1848 District of the Province of Mompox, by Providential ordinance October 23 the same year.
