Anorí Township was founded in 1808 by Juan de la Rosa Estrada and erected as a municipality in 1821. The municipality was created as a place for gold mining and later with the arrival of large numbers of settlers; the place acquired the characteristics of a town so it was elevated to that category in 1821. The golden age of the population was between the years 1830 to 1850, when the gold rush subsided and most investors left the town.
