As part of the campaign of submission to the sovereignty Chilean Mapuche territory remained independent until then, known locally as "Pacification of Araucania ", from the mid-nineteenth century began a process of building military garrisons alliances with some chiefs and armed actions against others.

In this context, the Mighty and Strong Recabarren Temuco was founded near the end of the conflict, on February 24 of 1881 , by order of Minister Manuel Recabarren , consisting of the Chilean Armyand immigrants of various nationalities , and also inhabited by the Mapuche Allies at Nuremberg area.

In the beginning was the characteristics of a military camp (Fort Recabarren), it was besieged by the Mapuche , who harassed the occupants through raids , incursions fast attack and looting, including the abduction of women and cattle rustling.

In November 1883 the latest attack took place the strong Mapuche from Temuco, where Mapuche attempted an ambush and were defeated.Then many of the wounded were killed by soldiers around it took to finish them off. Strengthening urbanism means the final installation of Chileans in the area and connecting the traditional Central Zone with the existing population to the south, particularly Valdivia and Osorno .

Shortly after the April 15 of 1888 , and was elected to the authorities that were the first City Hall, where it appeared as mayor Jos� del Rosario Mu�oz . The rapid population growth of Temuco already appreciated in the early years, in 1895 established a census population of 7708 people and the creation of the Province of Caut�n, when it became the capital Temuco, this figure increased to 16,037 inhabitants.

The city of Temuco was delineated by the engineer German Weichsel Teodoro Schmidt . Already in 1893 Temuco had over 10,000 inhabitants and rail. In 1910 resided several banks , seven newspapers (one in German), hotels , factory beer , casinos , etc..
