The municipality borders to the north with Chain estuary, which separates it from the town of Barnstaple , on the south by the Cachapoal River which separates it from the town of Olivar , on the east by the estuary of Machal� that separates this commune and the hill west of the Flag and the Cord of the hills ofThe Miranda that separates it from the commune of Do�ihue .

The largest transportation constituent city buses commonly called micros . The largest transport fleet consists mainly of medium capacity light vans. Since the implementation of transportation plan O'higgins Trans-  became a division of the types of transportation: the micros red which are the urban route and green which are the rural rate. The latter are the mainstay of transportation with the communes that make up the conurbation of Rancagua .

The lower transportation lines constitute the collective taxis , which are divided into the inter-urban and distinctly. Currently there is a restriction to vehicular groups , which are an important part of automobiles in the city.

The "Rodoviario" is the terminal where locomotion is concentrated towards the communes surrounding the city, both major and minor transportation.

 Means of public transport

The main terminal of the city is the O'Higgins Terminal , located at the intersection of Avenida Libertador Bernardo O'Higgins (also known as the Alameda ) and Route 5 south.

From this Terminal interprovincial bus companies operate with destinations to major cities such as Santiago , San Fernando , Curico , Talca , Chill�n , Concepci�n , Temuco , and the Bus Terminal located at Dr Salinas, Rural routes like San Fernando, The Miranda , Do�ihue, Colton, San Vicente, Peumo, goats, Pichilemu, also bound for the metropolitan
