The square was declared a Typical Zone in 1991. In the center is a bronze sculpture which was opened in 1920 and representing the navigator Ferdinand Magellan.

Palacio Sara Braun was declared a National Monument and its construction dates from between 1894 and 1905. It is fully restored and you can see furniture and styles of the time. Today it houses the Union Club.

Cathedral Church (old church of the Salesians) The first temple was destroyed in 1892, was built entirely of wood. Nine years later another brick was built and dedicated to the Sacred Heart, is now the cathedral church of the diocese.

Zona Franca La Zona Franca de Punta Arenas is located in the northern sector of the city, next to the Central Campus of the University of Magallanes . Imported goods are sold tax free. It is divided into an area of retail outlets, comprising 53 hectares, and a two-level shopping mall. It's appliance stores, electronics, photography and perfumery.

Cerro de la Cruz It comes down to the street Se�oret Columbus Avenue, where you turn left and go up two blocks of paved road. There reaches the top of Cerro de la Cruz, from where there is a panoramic view of the city roofs and colors to Tierra del Fuego.

Institute of Patagonia The Patagonia Institute research center, part of the University of Magallanes . It covers scientific and technological fields. You can get information about science, culture and Patagonian techniques. It has a library, a botanical garden, museum and laboratories.

Teatro Municipal Punta Arenas is located at Magallanes and is located in the place occupied by the first fort of Punta Arenas in 1848. The building was donated by Jose Menendez.
