History of Ilha de Sao Tiago

Ribeira Grande de Santiago , before Old Town, 15 km west of the beach, on the coast, was the first capital of Cape Verde.

About 50 km north of the beach is located the city of Assomada with its crowded market and Tabanka Museum. The north of the island, about 75 km from the beach, is the village of Tarrafal beach of white sands and palm trees, with some tourism infrastructure. That same county is the old field Tarrafal created by the Government of the Portuguese Estado Novo under Decree-Law no. 26,539, of April 23, 1936.
