Since 1999 it has been observed continuous rise in temperature of the seawater in the region of Ponta do Sol , which leads the volcanologists to admit that it is increasing the risk of further eruptions in the area.

A part of the island facing the south is almost completely dry , while the northeast enjoys rainfall is relatively regular and fairly green. It is not surprising therefore that most of the population is concentrated in this part of St. Anthony.

Many volcanoes are relatively young and have boilers. The mountains are composed of basalt and rise up to hundreds of meters high.
