The name of this new city has long been discussed, Ferj kioua, Ferrouja, wa el Ferj to name Ferdjioua . Laville was also known under the name of which means Fedj M'Zala Col M'Zala name of an ancient Berber tribe.

This city was founded by the famous ferroujihar against the Romans in 1500 BC .
